´ace (arte contemporáneo en expansión) is an organization that has been promoting contemporary artistic practices and exploration of their multiple interfaces through residency programs since 2005. The program aims to promote collaborative work, exchange, debate, and experimentation, linking different artistic practices and residents with the cultural, urban, and social community of Buenos Aires.

The Exploration Residency program is aimed at professional and emerging artists from any discipline who want to work on visual, sound, or performance art research, or who wish to have a space for reflection to create, investigate, or write. Residents receive tutoring, mentoring, accompaniment, and work critiques from the ´ace team and specialized professionals. Exploration Residencies may include an open studio format presentation or other possibilities opening up their process for the local public.

Residents have access to private studios, shared studios, and dedicated studio/shop spaces with part-time technicians. Facilities include painting workspaces, drawing benches, printmaking workshops, book arts facilities, etching press, silkscreen studio, lithography studio, and light tables. Housing options include private apartments off-campus or private bedrooms in shared housing on campus.

  • Residency fee: $2400 USD (varies by age, duration, and additional services)
  • Sub-30 artists receive reduced fees
  • Fee includes: studio access (10am–6pm Mon–Fri), technical and conceptual guidance, portfolio reviews, common materials and tools, WIFI, transportation card (SUBE), accident insurance, welcome/farewell meals, and open studio presentation
  • Fee does NOT include: inbound/outbound flights, visas, lodging, health insurance, special materials, or work shipping

´ace holds four open calls per year with deadlines of January 31st, April 30th, July 31st, and October 31st. Artists are selected through their submitted proposals.

Eligibility
Any stage of career — ´ace holds four open calls a year (deadlines are: January 31st, April 30th, July 31st and October 31st), and artists-in-residency are selected through their submitted proposals. The program focuses on expanded art practices (both physical and digital), including visual arts, performance art, sound art, and curatorial projects, with a special interest in proposals that make use of various medium or dissolve the borders between them. Our printmaking workshop fosters the idea of the multiple in a work of art, involving –but not circumscribed only to– traditional and innovative printmaking, installation, photography, artist book, painting illustration, video, stop motion, sound art and new media. Since 2005, ´ace has been working as a driving force that links not only different artistic practices within the cultures that produce them, but also between the residents and the rich cultural, urban and social community of the City of Buenos Aires.
