The Contemporary Glass Society announces the Amanda Moriarty Memorial Prize 2026, offering a unique mentoring opportunity with renowned artist Emma Woffenden. This annual prize celebrates Amanda Moriarty, a long-serving Board member and Honorary Treasurer of CGS who passed away in 2017.

Emma Woffenden is an internationally recognised British artist working in glass and mixed media. She trained at the Royal College of Art and University for Creative Arts and is known for combining kiln-formed, cast, blown, and cold constructed glasswork with other materials. Her work explores the body, gesture, and emotion through sculpture, installations, and interdisciplinary collaborations. Her sculptures and installations are held in over 25 UK and international public collections. She is an experienced teacher whose mentoring approach is supportive and idea-driven.

  • Four mentoring sessions with Emma Woffenden (online or in-person)
  • Possibility of a day in Emma's studio covering basic mould-making, experimental approaches, and technical advice tailored to the winner's needs
  • Sessions taking place in Autumn 2026, arranged to suit both Emma and the selected maker
  • An induction Zoom call prior to mentoring to meet Emma and discuss ideas
  • £300 contribution from CGS towards accommodation/travel if a studio visit takes place

All members of the Contemporary Glass Society can apply. If you are not currently a member, you can join via the CGS website to be eligible to apply. This opportunity is open to artists at any stage of their glassmaking career, including UK-based and international CGS members.

  • Submission deadline: 17 July 2026
  • Mentoring sessions: Autumn 2026

Submit up to 6 images supporting your application—these can be images of previous work and/or images supporting your proposal. Ensure images are good quality and represent your work accurately. Name files with your name, title of work, and any photo credit. In your application, tell us about yourself, your current glass practice, and what you hope to achieve through the mentoring.

It is free to apply (but you must be a CGS member). If selected and a studio visit takes place, CGS provides a £300 contribution towards accommodation and travel.

If selected, all images submitted must be available for CGS to use for publicity and you must have copyright. Images must be a minimum of 300dpi. CGS and the curators will endeavour to promote the residency via press releases, website, and other channels.
