Submit up to 9 digital images of past work, an artist statement, and CV/resume for a $116,000 site-specific public artwork commission at Cincinnati State's Main Building.

Cincinnati State invites Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana artists to submit qualifications for a $116,000 commission to create a large-scale public artwork for the Main Building renovation. The artwork should transform hallway wall panels into an engaging visual experience reflecting the college's mission and impact, communicating themes of growth, discovery, transformation, opportunity, innovation, and career development.

  • Entry Opens: Monday, June 29, 2026
  • Entry Deadline: Friday, August 14, 2026

Open to artists residing in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. Cincinnati State employees and their spouses are not eligible. Students enrolled in any degree or certificate-granting program are not eligible.

  • Up to 9 digital images of past work
  • Artist statement
  • Current resume (max 4 pages) as PDF attachment

The commissioned artwork should communicate themes of growth, evolution, transformation, forward movement, student success, career development, innovation, technology, and hands-on experiential learning. The work should feel dynamic, engaging, contemporary, vibrant, fluid, inclusive, and forward-looking, leaving viewers inspired, optimistic, energized, and welcomed.

Artwork must be durable, suitably maintenance-free, and withstand high-traffic environments. The work should be human-created and original, with contemporary and visually engaging design featuring strong storytelling, dynamic compositions, and layered imagery. Consider mixed media, texture, and fabricated elements. Avoid overly abstracted artwork, generic imagery, excessive Cincinnati State Green, and work requiring excessive maintenance.

The Advisory Selection Committee will review submitted materials and develop a list of semi-finalist artists invited to meet with the committee for a site visit. Semi-finalists will visit the campus and artwork site location(s) and create a site-specific artwork proposal based on their visit.
