About
Design and paint an exterior mural (3,000 sq ft) at the primary entryway to Adams County Fairgrounds, inspired by contemporary western aesthetic, including community engagement and installation.
Overview
The Adams County Fairgrounds at Riverdale Regional Park seek an artist to design and execute an exterior mural (3,000 sq ft) at the primary entryway. This highly visible gateway will greet over a million people yearly and set the visual tone for the entire Fairgrounds. The design should be inspired by a contemporary western aesthetic and explore themes connected to the Fairgrounds' rich history, activities, and diverse communities.
Opportunity Details
This is a paid commission for design, installation, and community engagement. The selected artist will work directly with Adams County Cultural Arts Division and is expected to engage the community through workshops, artmaking sessions, or collaborations with local schools. The artist will attend select events at the Fairgrounds, including the 2027 Adams County Fair (August 4-8, 2027).
Mural Site
The mural will be painted on the south side of the Al Lesser Building. The design will cover seven consecutive textured walls of various sizes and wrap around the building with partial coverage on the east and west facing sides. The mural will be visible from both distant viewpoints (as people drive through the Fairgrounds) and up close (along adjacent sidewalks).
Eligibility
Open to professional artists or artist teams local to Colorado.
Submission Requirements
Applicants must submit between 8–10 total items: 4–10 images and 0–6 videos.
Budget & Award
Total project budget is $80,000, inclusive of all costs: artist fees, design, community engagement, installation, materials, permits, insurance, travel, and all other expenses. This budget does not include application of top-coat. Finalists (3–5) will receive a $750 honorarium to complete a project-specific proposal. Artists may bid separately for anti-graffiti and UV protectant application at a later date with additional budget provided.
