Jentel Residency Winter/Spring 2027 Open Call

Overview

Located 20 miles southeast of Sheridan, Wyoming, in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains, the Jentel Artist Residency welcomes visual artists in all mediums; writers in fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry; and composers in all genres of music. The residency offers a supportive environment with private studios and access to Wyoming's natural beauty.

Residency Details

• 3-week residencies available mid-January through early December
• Private room, shared living area and kitchen, and separate studio space
• Average of 6 artists in residence at a time
• Some meals provided; residents have access to shared kitchen
• Partially accessible facilities (50% or more)

Eligibility

• Must be at least 25 years old
• US citizen or residing in the US during the year of the residency
• Not enrolled full-time (9+ hours) in an academic program
• Post-doc fellows are eligible
• Any stage of career welcome

• Submission deadline: September 15, 2026

Fees & Stipend

• Application fee: $30
• $100 non-refundable reservation deposit due one month after notification (non-refundable if cancelled less than two months before residency start)
• $300 stipend distributed in weekly installments during residency
• No additional charges beyond application fee and deposit

Expectations

Residents are expected to participate in public programming, open studio with fellow residents, and give an artist talk or presentation.

Selection Criteria

Jentel awards residencies based on artistic merit and promise. Review panelists are visual art, literary, and music professionals who review applications twice yearly. Mature and emerging artists are both encouraged to apply.
