Artists in all disciplines are invited to apply for 2-3 month off-season residencies at Byrdcliffe Arts Colony in Woodstock, New York.
Overview
Byrdcliffe's Artists-in-Residence program offers artists in all disciplines uninterrupted time to live and work within the serene natural setting and creative community of Woodstock's historic Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, one of the earliest utopian and continuously operating Arts Colonies in America.
Residency Dates
- Fall/Winter Session: October 15 – January 15 (3 months)
- Spring Session: March 1 – April 26 (2 months)

Eligibility
Open to artists based anywhere in the world at any stage of career working in all disciplines. Main criterion is artistic excellence and demonstrated commitment to one's field of endeavor. Pets are not allowed. Artists must have their own transportation for the duration of residency.
Disciplines
Writing, visual arts, weaving, music, composition, digital arts, filmmaking, dance, animation, performance art, literature, and multi-disciplinary practices are among the eligible disciplines.
Housing & Amenities
Private housing on campus (individual apartment/cabin/house). Residents have access to private kitchen, easels, and floor looms. Off-season programming is limited. Artists are invited to participate in the annual AiR exhibition the year after their residency.
Fees & Financial Assistance
Application fee is $30 USD. Cottage residency fees vary by cottage assigned. A limited amount of financial assistance is available, covering partial to full residency fees. Financial aid is not guaranteed.
What to Know
Byrdcliffe does not provide laundry or grocery services. Residents are required to set up and pay for their own utilities while in residence (Byrdcliffe will provide utility company and set-up information). About 90 artists are accepted annually from a pool of approximately 200 applicants.
