Nesse - Terneuzen - Mondriaan Fund

Overview

Nesse is Terneuzen's cultural space for production, development and presentation of contemporary art and design, located in the former Philips factory. The residency program offers artists the opportunity to temporarily settle in Terneuzen and conduct artistic research within the thematic framework 'Being In the World' (2024-27), which addresses social and ecological challenges through the program components: Food and Industry, Sources of Energy, and Learning from the Stream.

For Whom

Visual artists who engage with the thematic framework and want to broaden their artistic practice by conducting research in Zeeland, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen and the border region. Preference is given to project proposals that clearly explain why the research should be conducted specifically at Nesse and demonstrate how local residents, visitors, local associations, landscape, gardens, public space, archives, and/or local history are involved.

What You'll Get

Selected residents receive a large workspace of 46 m², access to shared workshops (wood workshop and acoustic space), gardens for large objects or living matter, and guidance from artistic coordinator Adriënne van der Werf. Residents are asked to organise two sharing moments in which working practice and specific research are shared (such as open studio, workshop or lecture).

Funding

The Mondriaan Fund provides €2,402 per month for travel, material and accommodation costs. A 10% personal contribution is required (automatically deducted from subsidy). For artists based in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, the contribution may be increased to meet higher travel costs, assessed per situation.

Application Requirements

Applications must demonstrate engagement with the thematic framework, clear rationale for conducting research at Nesse, and explain how local residents, visitors, associations, landscape, gardens, public space, archives, and/or local history will be involved. Selection

Selection is made by an advisory committee who review submitted documents and may conduct interviews. The advisory committee nominates candidates to Nesse, which makes the final decision. Processing time may exceed three months.
