About
Overview
Self-directed residency in Athens, Greece for artists, writers, performers, musicians, puppeteers, theorists, visionaries, and other creative practitioners. The residency focuses on process, cultural heritage, craft, ecology, theoretical rigor, and space for experimentation.
Duration
Minimum 2 weeks, maximum 3 months. Most residents stay 1-2 months as the program runs on a monthly schedule.
Eligibility
Anyone aged 18-118 with a creative project or practice, including visual artists, writers, thinkers, academics, performers, dancers, architects, directors, and other emerging or well-established creative practitioners and scholars.
Disciplines & Media Supported
The space can support artists working in sculpture, painting, drawing, new media, digital photography, animation, architecture, performance, dance, theater, writing, composing, music, textile art, and more.
Studio & Workspace
Large shared studios on the 4th floor of a brutalist building on Kallidromiou Street in Exarcheia, filled with light and overlooking Lycabbetus Hill. Studios furnished with table, chair, shelves, and lamp. Access to shared woodshop with tools and safety gear, kitchen, lounge, standing and desk easels, six TVs, microphone, amplifier, and AV equipment.
Accommodation
Two apartments in a neoclassical building from 1928 in the Kypseli neighborhood. Private and shared rooms available (shared rooms at reduced price). Amenities include two bathrooms, two kitchens, living room with carved archway, balconies, and rooftop terrace. Located 20-minute walk from studios through Pedion Tou Areos park.
Community & Events
Open year-round except August and December. Monthly events include shared dinners with residents, contemporary art gallery and museum tours, cultural history day trips, and Open Studios events. Access to rotating cultural events at Argo Annex including artist talks, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, and performances. All community events are optional.
What to Bring
Artists must provide their own art supplies. Six excellent art supply shops are within walking distance of the studios. AV equipment and woodshop tools are provided.
