Design the New Grand Canyon Arizona Specialty License Plate

Overview

Grand Canyon Conservancy invites artists of all ages who are legal residents of Arizona to submit original designs for a new Grand Canyon specialty license plate. Proceeds from plate sales support the Conservancy's work protecting the canyon, preserving history, honoring tribal co-stewardship, and expanding visitor experiences.

What to Design

• Image across entire plate depicting recognizable Grand Canyon National Park-inspired design
• Colors and contrast ensuring legibility of plate numbers
• Top must read ARIZONA; lower legend area must say Grand Canyon Conservancy
• Design should appeal to Arizona drivers and Grand Canyon enthusiasts
• Must follow ADOT License Plate Design Guidelines
• Final design must be original and not AI-generated; no third-party copyright or trademark violations

Key Dates

• Submissions open: Monday, August 10, 2026, 8:00 a.m. MST
• Submission deadline: Wednesday, September 30, 2026, by 5:00 p.m. MST
• Public voting: Monday, October 5 through Sunday, October 11, 2026
• Winner announced: On or about the week of October 12, 2026

Submission Requirements

Submit via Crowdriff in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format. Minimum resolution 72 ppi, maximum file size 16 MB. If selected as winner, provide layered, editable file. ADOT prefers vector-based artwork (Adobe Illustrator); order of preference: ai, psd, jpeg. All digital images must be at least 300 DPI at actual size.

Prize

The selected artist receives a $1,000 cash award. The artist will not receive ongoing royalties from plate sales. Prize is subject to federal and state income tax reporting and will be disbursed after the winner provides a completed IRS Form W-9.

Judging Process

A panel of Grand Canyon Conservancy staff judges all submissions using the submission detail criteria. The top four designs (or fewer if fewer entries of sufficient quality are received) will be voted on by the public via social media. The judging panel may weigh public voting results as much or as little as they deem appropriate for audience appeal.

Rights and Eligibility

The winner grants exclusive, perpetual, worldwide license to Grand Canyon Conservancy and ADOT to use, reproduce, and market the design. Non-winning artists retain 100% ownership of submitted designs. Final design is subject to review and ADOT may alter, edit, or crop to meet regulatory guidelines. Winners must sign Declaration of Eligibility, Liability Release, assignment of rights, and Publicity Release (minors require parent/guardian signature). Failure to comply may result in disqualification.
