Music and photography have a long and vibrant relationship. The New Orleans Photo Alliance and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation invite submissions of your best photographs of these interconnected art forms—from stages to streets, from full orchestras to solo practice sessions. Photographers are encouraged to think broadly about form, format, process, and approach. In the spirit of Roy DeCarava's 'The Sound That I Saw,' this call invites a wide and improvisational approach to making lens-based work about the sound and images that move us, in New Orleans and beyond.

  • Submission deadline: September 30, 2026
  • Exhibition: Late October 2026 through December 2026 and PhotoNOLA Fest
  • Open to all photographers; NOPA membership not required
  • All ages accepted
  • Works must be legal; artist assumes responsibility for legal right to exhibit and sell images
  • Fine arts nudes and implied nude works acceptable
  • AI-generated photos not permitted

Submit 3–10 photographs (maximum 5 pieces per entry). Files must be JPEG or JPG, under 5MB, with a minimum of 1,200 pixels on the longest side.

  • Non-members: $35
  • Members: $25
  • Submission Fee + Basic NOPA Membership: $60
  • Submission Fee + Silver NOPA Membership (includes online portfolio listing): $85
  • Gallery receives 40%; artist receives 60% of retail price of works sold
  • Photographers responsible for all shipping fees

Bruce Sunpie Barnes is a veteran New Orleans musician, former National Park Service ranger, actor, photographer, author, former high school biology teacher, former college football All-American, and former NFL player (Kansas City Chiefs). A multi-instrumentalist and master of accordion and harmonica, he has traveled to over 50 countries and recorded 6 critically acclaimed CDs with compositions in 16 Hollywood film productions.
