Overview

Launched in 2025 by the Françoise Association and the Cité internationale des arts, this research and creative residency programme explores the links between contemporary art, psychiatry and the humanities. It is open to artists of all nationalities whose practice resonates with the notion of the 'clinical'—a situated approach as close as possible to the subject. The programme promotes approaches that remain close to real-life narratives and experiences and engage in reflection on the challenges of care.

Eligibility

Open to artists and creators from any discipline at mid-career or established stage, of any nationality. Applicants must demonstrate fluency in French or English and a clear interest in the links between art and mental health.

What is offered

• Dedicated professional support, meetings, and networking opportunities with Albertine de Galbert (clinical psychologist and exhibition curator)
• Furnished live-in studio at the Cité internationale des arts (Marais site), 25-35m², combining living and working space
• Monthly grant of €1,000 net of taxes
• Coverage of international round-trip travel to/from Paris airports or train stations, travel insurance, and research support (up to a defined ceiling, upon presentation of receipts)
• 4 to 6 working sessions with Albertine de Galbert

Required documents

• Detailed CV (2 pages max.), in French or English
• Portfolio (10 pages max., in French or English) for artists; dossier of recent publications for researchers
• Statement of intent (2 pages max., in French or English) outlining motivations, relevance to ongoing research, and interest in the programme's context and professional support
• One letter of recommendation from an institution or curator

Applications must be submitted to [email protected]. Once submitted, applications cannot be modified. Collective applications must result in a single application on behalf of all artists for a joint project. Please prepare your materials carefully.

Studio conditions

The laureates will be hosted in live-in studios on the Marais site of the Cité internationale des arts. Studios range from 25 to 35m² and combine research-creation and daily life, including a work space, kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping area. Each studio can accommodate up to two adults and one child under 10 years old. Additional fees apply for companions and visitors. The available live-in studios do not currently comply with accessibility standards for disabled persons, though improvements are being worked on.
