Aviário Studio Photography Residency provides technical conditions, time, and space for artists to develop ideas and try new approaches in a creative environment. The residency promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and the exchange of knowledge and experiences. It can be a moment of transition focused on experimentation and research, or a point of consolidation for producing a new body of work.

Open to artists based anywhere in the world at any stage of career. Must be over 21 years old at time of arrival. Spouses/partners allowed for full stay (non-collaborators). May apply as a team.

  • 2 weeks - 600 €
  • 3 weeks - 900 €
  • 4 weeks - 1,200 €

  • Studio support (training or assistance) - 20€ per hour
  • Application fee - 0 €
  • Darkroom (black and white analog photography lab) with enlarger, drying racks, light tables, and UV light exposure unit (150 x 120 cm)
  • Printmaking: etching press, inking table, large exposure unit, silkscreen studio with large sinks and washout room
  • Painting workspace with easels and oil painting supplies
  • Drawing benches and paper workspace with cutting table (240 x 140 cm), paper guillotine (80 cm), and paper soaking sinks
  • Woodworking tools: tablesaw, bandsaw, router table, jointer, planer, and wood vises
  • Ceramics workspace with electric wheels
  • Metal workshop with bench grinder and blacksmithing anvils, stakes, and hammers
  • Well-ventilated spray room
  • Shared studios and private studios available

Choose from Self-directed Residency, Guided Art Residency, or Assisted Production Residency (visit website for details).

Private bedroom in shared housing facility on campus. Partially accessible (50% or more). No artist stipend or travel stipend available. External grant applications encouraged.
