Overview
The James Castle House invites emerging and mid-career artists in any creative field to apply for a two-week solo residency at the historic house in Boise, Idaho, where James Castle lived and worked for the last 46 years of his life. Artists will explore the house, its history, and surrounding landscape, and respond through new work creation while sharing their practice with the community through one public event.
Residency Details
The selected artist will receive private furnished living quarters, 24-hour studio access, and a $1,000 stipend for living expenses and supplies. The resident is responsible for travel and shipping expenses. This is a solo residency; the artist will reside alone but have regular contact with staff and the Boise community.

Eligibility
- Open to artists aged 18+ in any creative field (visual/new media artists, poets, writers, musicians, dancers, metalsmiths, printmakers, etc.)
- Emerging or mid-career stage
- Open to applicants anywhere in the world
- Must be legally able to work in the United States
- Must pass a thorough background check
- Due to property limitations and proximity to neighbors, the site cannot accommodate loud or especially messy processes

Selection Criteria
Selections will be made by committee based on strength of application, quality of work samples, references, and interview. Demographic information will not be available to committee panelists unless disclosed by the applicant in short-answer questions.

Special Circumstances
If special equipment or facilities are required for the creation of work, the James Castle House will work to find a partnership within the Boise community to fill those needs. Pets are not allowed.
