Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) offers a Research Residency Program for international and local creators to stay, engage in creation, and conduct research activities in Tokyo, with a focus on research related to arts and culture in the city.

Residency Duration & Schedule
- Duration: 6 to 12 weeks within one of two periods
- Period 1: September 1, 2021 to November 30, 2021
- Period 2: January 1, 2022 to March 31, 2022
- Number of creators accepted: 10 total (5 per period)
Eligibility
- Considerable experience in specialized area of expertise
- Fluent in English to communicate with other residents and staff
- Independent and capable of working and living alone
- Duos may apply (will receive twin-bedded accommodation)
- Ph.D. candidates are eligible; other students are ineligible
Disciplines
Visual art, film, design, architecture, music, sound art, performing art, and curation.
Accommodation & Workspace
Private accommodation with private bathroom and kitchen will be provided. In principle, working studios are not provided by the program.
Fees & Financial Support
No financial support is provided. Participating creators must find and apply for other grants or funds by themselves if needed.
Expectations
TOKAS expects participating creators to exchange creative ideas and present outcomes of their residency at the Open Studio.
