Overview
The Quenten Doolittle Memorial Gallery at the Pumphouse Theatre, a vibrant facility with historical significance, invites Calgary and Alberta visual artists to exhibit and sell their work free from commission. The gallery provides accessible wall display space and serves all Calgarians through engagement, enrichment, and cultural experience.
Theme
STRICTLY HUMAN is an exhibit that highlights and celebrates the human experience. Artists are invited to explore what they find interesting, amusing, confusing, and fascinating about being human. AI-generated artwork is not accepted.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Artist must reside in Calgary/Alberta and be available for installation dates
- Artwork must be framed and equipped with picture hanging wire and D rings (hanging cleats or flat metal hardware will not be accepted)
- Unconventional hanging methods may be accommodated upon request
- No nudity in artwork
- Selection criteria include suitability to theme, technique, emotional response, creativity & innovation, and suitability to gallery space and patrons (ages 5+)
Key Dates
- Submission Deadline: September 14, 2026, 11:59 pm
- Notification: No later than 2.5 weeks after deadline
- Installation: October 4–7, 2026
- Exhibition: October 9–December 19, 2026
- Take Down: December 20–23, 2026
How to Apply
Submit the following via email or mail: completed Gallery Submission Form, artist biography (250 words max), and images of 1–5 artworks. All elements are required for a complete application.

- Submit 1–5 images of artworks (JPG, JPEG, or PNG files only)
- Artwork must be delivered ready to hang (wall-space only)
- Do not send original works with application
Artist Biography
Provide a short description (250 words maximum) of who you are and your art background, training, passion, and/or any combination of the aforementioned information.
Installation & Drop-Off
The Pumphouse Theatre will install work on behalf of artists. Artwork may be dropped off or picked up by the artist or representative during 11 am–6 pm on installation or take-down dates. Reserve your installation and take-down date via provided form or by contacting the Programming Director.
