Program Overview
Popps Packing invites serious studio artists to apply for a 1-3 month studio residency for the 2027 season. The space accommodates 2 resident artists at a time. Residents will have a private bedroom within a 2-bedroom loft-style studio with access to shared kitchen, bathroom, and communal studio spaces. The residency functions as a studio space first in a concrete loft-style warehouse setting.

Eligibility
Open to artists worldwide at any career stage (emerging, mid-career, established). Artists must have a serious studio practice, be able to live/work alongside other artists, and commit to maintaining the communal environment. Spouses/partners allowed for full stay (non-collaborators); children allowed for full stay. Pets are not allowed.
Cost
- $850-$1,000 per month, utilities included
- Payment for full residency term can be paid upfront or on the 1st of each month

Community & Programming
Popps Packing is a communal environment fostering community among resident artists. The space occasionally hosts small gatherings, public events, workshops, open studios, tours, and other community activities. Residents are encouraged to propose and host public-facing programs such as workshops, performances, open studios, artist talks, or screenings.
Application Requirements
Email poppspacking@gmail with 'Studio Residency' in subject header. Include: name, preferred pronouns, contact info, location, website/online portfolio link, work samples, resume/CV, brief bio, preferred residency dates, motivation for visiting Detroit/Hamtramck, and brief description of proposed projects.
Work Sample Guidelines
- Still images: up to 10 JPEG images (max 1200 pixels on any side), each with caption of 200 characters or less
- Time-based: URLs to work on Vimeo, YouTube, Soundcloud, etc., each with caption of 200 characters or less (limit to approx. 5 min of work)
- Text: 3 pages, each with contextual summary of 200 characters or less
Additional Opportunities
Residents may participate in public programming, open studio with fellow residents, give artist talks, teach in studio, lead workshops for the public, and lead skill shares.
