Traditional Arts Practice Grant–Arts Council Tokyo

Overview

This grant subsidizes projects that allow people to experience traditional Japanese performing arts multiple times, making it accessible to beginners and encouraging regular participation.

Target Organizations

Organizations with headquarters or head offices in Tokyo, including theaters, music halls, arts organizations, NPOs, and executive committees.

Eligible Project Types

• Projects focused on practical experience: playing musical instruments, dancing, acting, flower arrangement, tea ceremony, calligraphy
• Multiple experiences: participants must experience the same event more than once over a certain period
• Open to general public, including those new to traditional performing arts
• Not one-off experiences

Eligible Arts

• Kigaku (Gagaku, koto, shamisen, shakuhachi, flute, Nohgaku-bayashi, Hogaku-bayashi)
• Utaimono (Sokyoku, jiuta, nagauta, kouta)
• Kataramono (Various joruri, Heike, biwagaku, yokyoku)
• Theater (Noh and Kyogen)
• Buyo (Japanese dance)
• Kado (flower arrangement)
• Sado (tea ceremony)
• Calligraphy

Grant Amount

Up to 1/2 of subsidized expenses and up to 1 million yen. Amounts equivalent to consumption tax and local consumption tax are not subsidized.
