Professional artists will be given the opportunity to explore Great Basin National Park to foster their artistic process and connection with the public. Artists will immerse themselves in the park's landscape, culture, and wildlife, express inspiration through the creative process, and allow the public to connect with the Great Basin region through artistic perspective.

  • Summer: 2-3 weeks during July-August (camping residency with provided gear)
  • Fall: 2-3 weeks during September (camping) or November (housing); September includes the Park's Astronomy Festival
  • Winter: 2-3 weeks during January-February (housing with furnished private bedroom in shared living space)

Open to visual artists, literary artists, musicians, and other creative media artists. Professional resume and personal statement should address artistic ability to interpret Great Basin National Park to the public, artistic integrity, and ability to reside in a remote location.

Each artist will present at least one public program during their residency. Each artist will provide a digital portfolio of work created during the residency (not to be monetized; exclusive rights not requested; artists will be credited). Each artist will donate one physical artistic piece and digital representation within one year of residency. A deed of gift to Great Basin National Park Foundation will be required for donated work(s).

Internet service is unavailable; public WiFi is spotty at visitor centers; cell service is limited and varies by carrier. Pets and smoking are not allowed. Summer camping requires prior camping familiarity and confidence. Winter may involve several feet of snow; cross-country skis or snowshoes may be needed. Storms may make travel to amenities in Ely (60 miles away) difficult.
