About
Overview
Heike Kelter, a German artist born in Münster, is participating in the Artists-in-Residence Programme at MuseumsQuartier Vienna in August 2026. Her paintings explore space, perception, and abstraction through geometric form and color.
Artist Background
Kelter completed her Master's degree at Berlin University of the Arts in 1994. She has received scholarships from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and cultural funding from the Berlin Senate in 2018. She has taught in Berlin and London and held a residency at the Rothko Museum, Latvia, in 2025. Her work has been widely exhibited in Germany and the UK.
Residency Focus
During her residency at MQ Vienna, Kelter will develop and explore new techniques in how a chromatic palette relates to a freer hand of application. The emphasis will be on finding a new gestural process to create depth into the inner space of color through loosening previous formality, blending colors through layering and over-glazing, and developing a new path in creating space.
