About

Overview

Dot Gallery, a brand new gallery in historic Cockermouth, Cumbria, is seeking 2D artwork in any medium that evokes the theme of Texture. Artists are encouraged to interpret this theme however they wish, whether descriptively or abstractly. The gallery aims to provide a relaxed and welcoming space showcasing regular exhibitions and supporting local artists.

Eligibility

Artists based in the UK are welcome to submit. No sculpture, audio, or video works.

Media & Size

2D work in any medium. Wall-mounted work can be of any size or shape, framed or unframed. Unframed work must be suitable for hanging with Command Strips. Please consider the cost of return postage.

How to Submit

Artists can submit up to 3 pieces of work. Each piece requires a separate submission form. All work must be complete at submission. Any work that varies from the original piece or size submitted may be rejected. Canvas prints are not accepted as substitutes for original artwork. For prints, artists must produce and prepare them before delivery.

Fees & Commission

£30 per accepted work
10% commission on sales during the exhibition
Return postage by mail includes a £4 handling fee plus Royal Mail Tracked 48 hours postage (larger parcels via Parcelforce Express 48)

Exhibition & Collection

The exhibition runs from 29th August to 30th September 2026. Work can be collected from the gallery between 30th September and 14th October during opening hours (10:00–17:00). Alternatively, work can be returned by post at the artist's request, with fees as noted above.

Venue & Access

Dot Gallery is located in Cockermouth, Cumbria, a historic market town. The gallery has partial disabled access with some steps to the exhibition space and accessible facilities on premises. Gallery opening hours: Monday–Saturday, 10:00–17:00.

Promotion

The gallery will actively promote participating artists through @dot_gallery_cumbria on Instagram and through Wendy Kirwood's artist profile @w_k_artist (1,220 followers). Social media handles will be displayed alongside artwork, and the gallery website is in development.
