Artists, makers, musicians, writers, and creative thinkers of any career stage worldwide are invited to apply for a 2-week to 6-month self-directed residency at La Porte Peinte in Burgundy, France.
About La Porte Peinte
La Porte Peinte is an international arts centre located in Noyers sur Serein, a medieval village in Burgundy, celebrated as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. The centre is housed in a rambling medieval half-timbered building overlooking the village square and offers artists, makers, musicians, and writers in residence the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange. The UNESCO heritage site Vezelay is 30 minutes away.
Residency Details
- Length: 2 weeks to 6 months
- Five comfortable bedrooms on-site plus four additional bedrooms in a nearby annex
- Eight private studio spaces, workshop spaces, and event spaces for classes and performances
- Facilities include private studios, painting workspace (oil), easels, performance/presentation facilities, and darkroom (black and white)
- Meals: Residents have access to shared kitchen; no meals provided
- Housing: Private bedroom in shared housing facility on campus; 50% or more accessible
Eligibility
Open to artists, performers, writers, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, and creative thinkers based anywhere in the world at any stage of career. Collaborative groups and partnerships are welcome. Family residencies available during special designated periods.
Residency Costs
- €2100, €2600, €2700, or €3000 per person per month depending on bedroom choice
- 2027 fees will rise by 10%
- Fee includes utilities, accommodation, studio space, shared kitchen and laundry facilities, wireless internet, and printer

Funding Support
While most residencies are artist-funded, La Porte Peinte offers a limited number of fully and partially funded residencies. La Porte Peinte USA aims to support artists affected by war, natural disasters, economic hardship, or discrimination, with focus on film, photography, and written reportage; applied art; sustainable design; work by women; emerging artists; and African, Haitian, and Latin American practitioners.

Residency Experience
In addition to the core self-directed residency programme, La Porte Peinte offers individually tailored mentored residencies. Residents may give artist talks or presentations. Collaborative residencies may apply as a team. Average of 5 artists in residence at any time.
