Overview
A month-long themed residency in Athens during July 2026 (the height of tourist season) inviting artists, scholars, writers, philosophers, thinkers, movement practitioners, and craft makers to investigate the consequences of tourism and reimagine the search for belonging. Participants will work in self-directed or collaborative ways, with access to shared readings, weekly discussions, and guest lectures from local experts. Up to 6 participants.

Location & Accommodation
Housed in the creative neighborhood of Kypseli in a neoclassical building from 1928 (nicknamed 'the Mansions'). Accommodations span two apartments with large private and shared rooms, two bathrooms, two kitchens, a shared living room, and balconies overlooking Plateia Agiou Georgiou. A 20-minute walk through Pedion Tou Areos park connects to Argo Studios in Exarcheia, the anarchist/activist center of Athens.
Studio & Workspace
Peak 90's aesthetic in a 1970s concrete brutalist building with private and shared studio rooms full of light. Includes woodshop, shared kitchen, library, reading nook, space for movement, meeting, and reflection. Studio specifications and images available at www.argo-arts.com/tourist.
Fees & What's Included
- Private bedroom: 1,885 EUR for the whole period
- Shared bedroom: 1,450 EUR for the whole period
- Includes: 29 nights accommodation, separate studio space, woodshop access, tools, some supplies, and weekly guest talks

The residency explores overtourism, international capital, and cultural homogenization. Open to diverse approaches including: pressure and relief depictions, pleasure landscapes, escapism, desertification of the Mediterranean, politics of traveling, xenophilia vs. xenophobia, resource scarcity, colonialism and tourism, hyperreality and spectacle, tourism and time, and distinctions between tourism, migration, asylum, and exploration.
