Get matched →AiR Boston is the City of Boston’s Artist-in-Residence program, managed by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture (MOAC). Since 2015, the program has created opportunities for artists to work within City government and alongside communities, bringing artistic practice into the way we understand and respond to civic challenges. Through socially engaged practice, Resident Artists can create new relationships, make different forms of knowledge visible, open up civic dialogue, and develop new approaches to the work of government. AiR Boston recognizes that artistic practice does not always result in a permanent object. A project might take the form of a gathering, process, experiment, prototype, performance, publication, civic tool, or something we have not yet imagined. By investing in artists and making their work and learning public, the program supports Boston’s creative workforce, enables more people to shape the city’s cultural life, and explores how culture can advance the common good. As we relaunch this program in October 2026, AiR Boston asks a bold question: What can artists make possible for Boston?
