About

Overview

Basic Pottery Instructor needed at Ankeny Art Center to teach hand-building techniques and introductory wheel throwing to students ages 16-90. Instructors will also teach glazing using Amaco and Mayco brush-on glazes; the studio manager handles bisque-firing and glaze-firing.

Key Dates

  • Application available: July 29 - August 15, 2026
  • Class dates: Tuesdays, September 8 - October 27, 2026
  • Instructor hours: 6pm-9pm (class time 6:30pm-8:30pm)
  • Class size: 4-9 students

Qualifications

  • BFA or BA required (or 5 years of equivalent experience)
  • Experience teaching art/ceramics
  • Strong technical skills and significant first-hand experience with Amaco and Mayco products
  • Exceptional time management leading classes with adults new to clay
  • Passion for working with people and creating a fun/interactive experience
  • Must live in commutable distance to Ankeny, Iowa

Compensation

$25/hour. Contract position with option for ongoing teaching contracts for the right candidate.
