Location & Overview
The Comoedien-Haus offers arts residency in the village of Kuks, part of a Baroque complex on both shores of the Elbe River. The space is housed in a former barn converted into a modest theater with a wooden stage (8 m wide × 4 m deep × 30 cm high) and auditorium (8 m × 8 m with sandstone flooring). A replica Baroque Carro commediale stage cart serves as an additional puppet stage. The space accommodates approximately 4–5 artists and is equipped with ventilation, a projector, and a screen.
Additional Performance Spaces
Residents also have access to the Rentz Museum garden (a 2-minute walk away) with a replica wooden stage, and the hall of the Municipal Inn on the Elbe Riverbank (12 × 6 m, heated, available year-round).
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided in an apartment within the historic U Kotvy House, featuring two rooms (a bedroom with double bed and a living room with two single beds), a kitchenette, and a bathroom with shower. The apartment is heated and suitable for desk-based residencies such as literary and translation work. Additional apartments can be arranged to accommodate up to 5 people near the Comoedien-Haus.
Facilities & Collections
The Jiří Nachlinger Puppet Gallery, housed in the Comoedien-Haus, features a collection of carved marionettes inspired by Braun's sculptures. The residency also provides access to the Rentz Museum of Baroque Printmaking.
Important Notes
Comoedien-Haus is situated near single-family houses; noise limits must be followed. Winter residencies are available. The residency was founded in 2020.
