Heritage Innovation - Mondriaan Fund

Overview

The Mondriaan Fund offers grants supporting innovation in the heritage sector through projects or research tracks that lead to substantive innovation for the applying institution or the broader heritage sector. Audience reach and knowledge sharing are key considerations.

Who may apply

Museums and collection-holding cultural heritage institutions (including archives) with public presentation functions in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Cultural organisations focusing on the heritage sector may also apply if they collaborate with one or more collection-holding institutions. Applicants must be non-profit legal entities not aimed at generating profits. Art education institutions, sector institutes, and post-academic institutions are excluded.

What may be funded

• Projects contributing to substantive innovation or sector development, such as developing new narratives around collection objects, strengthening regional collaboration, or redesigning collection presentation from a contemporary perspective
• Research tracks exploring how ideas can be developed, including feasibility studies into technological applications (artificial intelligence, gamification), new forms of presentation, or preservation approaches for contemporary art

Award amounts

• Projects: maximum 40% of variable project-related costs (minimum project budget €25,000)
• Research tracks: maximum 70% of costs, up to €15,000 maximum (no minimum budget)

Deadlines and application process

• 26 March 2026, before 16:00 Dutch time / 11:00 Caribbean time
• 17 September 2026, before 16:00 Dutch time / 10:00 Caribbean time

Conditions

Activities must not have a profit or commercial purpose. A declaration of consent from partnering heritage institutions must be included with collaborative applications. The institution must be a legal entity or collective of legal entities not aimed at generating profits or sales.
