Langley City - Douglas Park Washroom Building Mural: Call for Artists — BC Alliance for Arts + Culture

Overview

Langley City invites emerging and established artists, muralists, and artist collectives to submit proposals for a new outdoor mural at Douglas Park's newly built washroom facility. The selected artist will create a cohesive wrap-around mural across all four exterior walls.

What We're Looking For

• A cohesive mural design for all four exterior walls
• Artwork reflecting the diversity of park users and community members
• Themes connected to recreation, community events, connection, and shared experiences
• Original, creative artwork that is welcoming and family-friendly
• Artwork suitable for a large-scale outdoor public space

Eligibility

• Emerging and established artists
• Muralists
• Artist collectives of at least two artists
• Artists from the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
• Artists from diverse backgrounds and artistic practices

Key Dates

• Submission deadline: December 10, 2026 at 3:30 PM (Pacific Time)
• Artist notification: February 12, 2027
• Target mural completion: June 12, 2027 (Community Day)

Application Requirements

• Mural concept proposal showing all four exterior walls
• One-page artist statement
• Resume, CV, or biography for each artist
• Full contact information for each artist
• Portfolio of 3–5 completed mural or large-scale public art projects
• Two professional references

Compensation

The selected artist will receive an all-inclusive honorarium of $12,000 CAD, covering artist fees, design, labour, materials, equipment, insurance, transportation, and installation. $4,000 will be provided at the start of the project and $8,000 upon completion.
