Overview
Sharjah Biennial 17: What remains, sits restive brings together 109 artists across multiple venues in Sharjah. The exhibition explores the afterlives of socialist modernity and uses infrastructure as a method to examine how space, place, and memory intersect in tangible and intangible ways. The biennial is grounded in the common theme of how historical remainders continue to animate the present with their restive rhythms, shaping the politics of time and space.

Curators & Participants
The biennial features two curatorial approaches. Angela Harutyunyan presents 55 participants examining the emancipatory projects of socialist modernity. Paula Nascimento invites 54 participants to explore infrastructure, space, and memory as methods for understanding cultural silencing and contemporary issues.
