Millay Arts offers fully-subsidized Core Residencies and partially-subsidized Steepletop Residencies for multidisciplinary creators at Steepletop, the historic estate of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Edna St. Vincent Millay in Austerlitz, NY. The Core Residency is judged by a blind jury of peers, alumni, and arts professionals. Participants stay for two weeks to one month during April-July and receive private bedrooms and studios, chef-prepared communal weeknight suppers (attendance not mandatory), groceries, and an inspiring secluded setting in the upper Hudson Valley bordering the Berkshires.

Open to poets, writers (fiction and nonfiction), playwrights, screenwriters, filmmakers, composers, visual and performance artists. Cohort is limited to 6-7 participants maximum.

  • Regular deadline: October 1, 11:59pm EST
  • Late deadline: October 8, 11:59pm EST
  • Residency dates: April-July 2026

Applications available on Submittable at millayarts.submittable.com/submit. The Core Residency costs $45 application fee and $100 nonrefundable deposit. The partially-subsidized Steepletop Residency costs $2,000 for two weeks or $4,000 for four weeks and includes all perquisites of the Core.

Open to individual artists and 2-person collaborations. No alumni restrictions—alumni may reapply as the Core Residency uses blind jury selection.

Since 1973, Millay Arts has hosted over 3,000 creators. Alumni have received MacArthur Awards, National Book Awards, Pulitzer Prizes, PEN America and Lambda Literary Prizes, and Guggenheim Fellowships. Post-departure, the organization offers ongoing professional development assistance.
