Overview

Dylan Altamiranda is a fellow in the Nouveau Grand Tour NL residency program at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) in Amsterdam for July 2025. He is an artist and independent researcher working on a project titled "Navigators' drawings: imaginary worlds of the Americas in the Netherlands."

Project focus

The research explores the role of a tradition of printing in the Netherlands in shaping imaginaries derived from travel narratives at the dawn of the colonial project in the Americas. Through contemporary artistic practice and drawing, the project interrogates historical images and archives, with particular attention to maps as palimpsests of the imagined real.
