Open 4Culture

Overview

Open 4Culture is an introductory grant program designed to make cultural funding more accessible. The grant awards up to $2,500 to create and share arts, heritage, and historic preservation projects with King County residents and visitors.

Key dates

• Applications reopen April 2027
• Final Application due 3 months before event
• Sign up for the newsletter to be notified when grants open

Eligibility

• Individuals: 18+ years old, King County resident from application through end of project, sole creator or leading project, new to 4Culture grants
• Groups: arts groups, grassroots/nonprofit organizations, municipalities, Tribal governments, or businesses based in King County with core mission in arts, heritage, or historic preservation
• Not eligible: 4Culture staff/board/advisory committee members, past 4Culture grant awardees, individuals applying on behalf of current Launch or Sustained Support organizations
• Cultural Relief awardees remain eligible

What will be funded

Arts, heritage, and historic preservation projects that meet the following criteria: Public benefit (accessible to diverse ages, disabilities, languages, and communities); Qualifications or catalyst (demonstrated ability to complete the project); Feasibility (completion within 1-year grant period); and Advancing equity (optional—serving communities of color and historically marginalized communities).

Award and Equity Investment

Selected projects receive up to $2,500. Additional equity funding is added to projects that meet one or more of these requirements: based outside Seattle, located in a Seattle Community of Opportunity, or scored highly on the Advancing Equity criteria.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online. You must provide work samples, a project budget, a detailed project plan, and specific information about how King County residents will benefit from your work.
