It is funded by the Arts Council and managed by Poetry Ireland. Established in 1977, it is one of the longest running national arts-in-education programmes in Ireland.
Individual writers and storytellers, including poets, novelists, storytellers, teen fiction writers, children's writers, spoken word poets, and screenwriters.
Two-hour visits with a selected writer, which can be divided into shorter sessions for different class groups. Available to primary and post-primary school groups.
Schools pay €100. The scheme funds the balance plus travel expenses. Maximum award is €250 (as of 2025).
