Overview
Hayama Artist Residency 2027 is a four-week international residency for visual artists in Hayama, a coastal town in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The program emphasizes cultural immersion, artistic reflection, career development, and self-care. Artists are not required to produce new work; instead, the program encourages residents to use the time according to their own needs. A group exhibition presenting participating artists' work takes place in Tokyo during the residency, organized in partnership with KOKI ARTS gallery.
Eligibility
Open internationally to visual artists aged over 21, regardless of where they are based. Artists working in any medium may apply. Eligibility is not restricted by race, gender, culture, or religion. Individual artists only; spouses, partners, children, and other family members cannot accompany residents. Applications must be submitted in English.

How to Apply
Submit an online application with up to 10 work samples in JPEG, audio, or video formats. Applications must be submitted in English.

Application Fee
The application fee is $95 USD for first-time applicants and is non-refundable. Applicants applying a second time do not pay an application fee. For first-time applicants who are not selected, the fee is transferable toward the following year's application.

Artists are not required to create new work during the residency, and the program does not provide art materials or personal electronics. Visa-related costs and passport expenses are the responsibility of the selected artist. The residency does not provide immigration or legal advice. Applicants should independently confirm Japanese visa requirements before applying.
