Get matched →This open call invites multidisciplinary artists and researchers to participate in FUTURE FREQUENCIES LAB II. Materiality. Conceived by Sumac Space / Jung Hsu, Davood Madadpoor, Selen Solak, with guest keynote Rheim Alkadhi. The lab emerged from conversations after the first edition of the IMAGINATION lab in July, sharing research interests.
Materiality is understood as an activated object, a generative medium. It can be physical, digital, archival, bodily, or ecological, and can be excavated in social and political realms, narratives, and actions, even when embedded, weightless, wireless, transparent, or silenced. Examining material interrelations helps question histories across cultural, political, and scientific spheres. The inquiry links how we understand local environments to planetary scale thinking, considering energy as a material process affecting memory—how things are remembered, forgotten, stored, lost, or switched off. We will explore how abstract concepts turn into instruments and material forms, and how material functions in science-fiction practices to produce new capacities. Participants are invited to bring their own perspectives on materiality, connected to energy, memory, and science fiction.
The lab welcomes all disciplines, and participation is free. The lab is unpaid. Due to its collaborative and discursive nature, the group size is kept small. Artists and researchers whose work closely aligns with the lab’s theme are invited. The speaking language is English.
