Open Door

Overview

Open Door provides funding for ideas with the potential to create transformative change in the arts sector. This program welcomes projects that demonstrate leadership through innovation, experimentation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.

What this program does NOT fund

• Individuals
• Activities included in TAC operating grants or other TAC project grants
• Capital projects, renovations, or repairs (except those essential to the funded project)
• Organizations receiving operating funding directly from the City of Toronto's Economic Development and Culture Division or another City division
• Operating organization ongoing staff salaries (though in-kind contributions may be estimated and detailed in the budget)
• Educational and religious institutions, unless there is clear separation between regular activities and arts activities

Eligibility

• Located in the City of Toronto (post office box cannot be used)
• Either an incorporated non-profit arts organization or an artist collective operating on a not-for-profit basis
• Viable administrative and financial plan required
• Can receive a grant through Open Door only once every two years
• Applicants from equity-seeking communities encouraged to discuss eligibility with Program Manager in advance

Project Timeline

All projects must be completed within two years of the notification letter. Project activities may not start until 3 months after the application deadline.

• Application Deadline: November 26, 2026 at 11:59 pm
• Applications submitted through TAC Grants Online only

Additional Support

• TAC Accessibility Grant: Up to $5,000 for accessibility costs (ASL interpretation, audio description, closed captioning, communications assistants, attendant care, support workers, equipment rentals)
• Application Support: Up to $500 available per eligible applicant for assistance completing grant applications; contact Program Manager at least 6 weeks before deadline

Other TAC Grants

Applicants may receive a maximum of one Strategic grant per calendar year and may not apply for more than one Strategic grant at a time. If applying for Open Door, cannot apply to another TAC program for the same project. Other Discipline Category grants may be available.
