Tokyo Metropolitan Area

The Government of Tokyo supports arts and culture activities that promote the cultivation and development of distinctive regional culture in Tokyo, preserve and pass down cultural assets, and revitalize local communities through arts and culture.

  • Intangible Folk Cultural Property Utilization Project: Activities that contribute to the stable succession of Tokyo's intangible folk cultural properties (designated, selected, or registered by national or local government).
  • Projects for Utilizing Tangible Cultural Properties and Historic Buildings: Art and culture activities that enhance the appeal of tangible cultural properties (buildings) and historic buildings in Tokyo.
  • Regional Cultural Resource Utilization Project: Activities that discover or utilize cultural resources of a specific area in Tokyo to pass them on and develop them.
  • Project for Creating Local Cultural Attractions: Artistic and cultural activities in which local people participate and enhance the cultural attractiveness of the region (general festivals and events organized by neighborhood and shopping associations are not eligible).

Applicants must be based in or operate in Tokyo. Category 2 applicants must have hosted the same project in the same area at least once and expect projects to reach 1,000 or more participants.

  • Category 1: Up to 500,000 yen; no lower limit. First-time applicants may apply. Up to 1/2 of subsidized expenses will be subsidized.
  • Category 2: Over 500,000 yen and not more than 2,000,000 yen. Targets projects with 1,000+ participants. Prior hosting of same project required. Up to 1/2 of subsidized expenses will be subsidized.

Consumption tax and local consumption tax are not subsidized.
