About
Overview
Nicolas Brault's stop-motion practice explores matter in transformation. Storm Protocols presents a laboratory of ordinary materials pushed into extraordinary behavior—coaxed into becoming clouds, lightning, and spiraling wind. Each protocol negotiates between the animator's hand, the material's physics, and forces that exceed both.
About the project
Working image by image through phenomena too fast or too vast to be witnessed directly, Brault proposes a form of attention that is at once scientific and animist. Storm Protocols constitutes the first phase of a larger research-creation project developed during the artist's residency at MuseumsQuartier Wien, following his Jury Award at Vienna Shorts 2025 for "Mémoire entropique".
