SAM Residencies welcomes applications from artists, curators, educators, researchers, and creative practitioners from across the globe for Cycle 4. The program is organized around three strands: Listening/Attuning (practices responding critically to the urgencies of our time), Making/Material Cultures (material inquiry and the process of making), and Beyond Human/Interdependence (relationships between humans, technologies, ecologies, and other forms of life). Applicants are invited to interpret these themes in relation to their practice.

  • Artist Residency: Open to artists and collectives pursuing new artistic research, experimentation and modes of making.
  • Community & Education Residency: Open to practitioners working at the intersection of artistic practice, education, and community engagement.
  • Curatorial & Research Residency: Open to curators and researchers working towards new approaches to exhibition making, and curatorial practice and research methodologies.

Open to individuals, duos and collectives from all mediums and disciplines. International applicants may apply for residencies of one to three months; Singapore-based applicants may apply for up to six months.

Selected applicants will undertake residencies between June 2027 and December 2028. Residents will pursue independent research and are open to engage with communities and the public in Singapore as part of their process. They are also encouraged to share works in progress or research outcomes through open studios, screenings, workshops, talks, and other experimental public formats. Applications will be assessed by an international panel comprising respected voices in contemporary art and practice.
