For a new temporary initiative in two green barracks (reception area Zedelgem), we are seeking artists who take this area as a starting point. We seek works that capture the soul of this place: material, tangible, and layered. How do you translate the historical scars, the force of nature, or the hidden stories into visual art? Whether it is the medieval reclamations of the Sint-Janshospitaal, the heritage of the former munitions depot, or the rare flora that today blooms among the historical structures: we are looking for your artistic interpretation of 'Woeste Grond'.

The soil beneath our feet is not neutral; it is a living archive that refuses to forget. The scars of successive uses and conflicts are literally stored within it. From the Vossenbarm cutting through the landscape as a historical line, to munitions that are occasionally still pulled from the ground today. Even the elements react: when the ponds empty in a dry summer, remaining phosphorus munitions come into contact with oxygen and the ground literally starts to smoke again.

In the summer of 2027, we will install a dynamic, rotating course with the selected artworks. Every three weeks the arrangement in the green barracks changes. This ensures a constant flow of new perspectives: a relay of artistic interpretations of the area.

Artists are invited to respond to 'Woeste Grond' (Wasteland), exploring the physical earth of the Vloethemveld as a deep, resistant memory—a living archive bearing the scars of successive uses, conflicts, and historical events including medieval reclamations, a former munitions depot, the Vossenbarm historical boundary, and rare flora that persists among these structures.
