The Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park offers artist-in-residence positions for ceramic and visual artists. Several Guest Artist positions and approximately 20 Studio Artist positions are available. Residency periods range from 2 months to 1 year, running April 1, 2027 – March 31, 2028. Guest Artists from outside Japan may commence residency on or after July 1, 2027.

  • Application period: September 1, 2026 – October 31, 2026
  • Notification of result: before December 27, 2026
  • Residency: April 1, 2027 – March 31, 2028
  • SCCP closed for New Years holidays: December 29 – January 3 (residents must vacate during this period)
  • Ceramic artists and artists from other fields
  • Minimum age: 20 years old at time of application
  • Guest Artists prioritize those with clear motivation, positive contributions to the ceramic community, and experience in ceramics or visual arts
  • Studio space (open studio: ¥38,400/month for Studio Artists; exempt for Guest Artists)
  • Accommodation (single room ¥20,300/month or twin room ¥26,400/month)
  • Technical support and presentation spaces (gallery, hall)
  • Production budget, material cost coverage (up to ¥100,000 for Guest Artists), and firing cost coverage (up to ¥110,000 for Guest Artists)
  • Travel support (Guest Artists only)
  • Artist fee (¥200,000 for Guest Artists)
  • Exhibition, open studio, and workshop opportunities
