Preservation Sustained Support provides general operating funds to nonprofit preservation organizations across King County. These funds support day-to-day needs and promote stewardship, advocacy, and educational opportunities around historic preservation.

Must be a King County-based nonprofit organization with primary purpose of advancing or preserving historic preservation; 501(c)(3) status required or must be fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3); must provide programming available to the general public.

A variety of operating expenses related to historic preservation programs and activities accessible to King County residents and visitors, including staff salaries, utilities, supplies, fees, and services.

For nonprofits and development authorities: Resilience, public benefit, economic impact, advancing equity (not required), and preservation priorities. For municipalities: Similar criteria focusing on preservation programs, public access, economic benefits, and equity focus.

4Culture awards additional funding to organizations based in underserved parts of King County and those serving marginalized communities disproportionately impacted by structural racism. Organizations with annual budgets over $5 million do not qualify for this additional funding.

Sustained Support 2025-2027 awards have been announced. Organizations in that group do not need to reapply. Other organizations may apply in fall 2025 for funding in 2026-2027. Final application deadline for 2027 is TBD.
