Nes Artist Residency offers a self-directed residency program in Iceland with open spots in October and November 2026 due to last-minute cancellations. Artists and writers of all backgrounds and disciplines are welcome to apply for 1–6 months. Nes is process-oriented with no requirement to produce finished work, providing a supportive environment for experimentation, research, and artistic development in a unique Icelandic landscape.

  • Residency dates: October and November 2026 (flexible length from 1 to 6 months)

Open to artists of any stage of career and from any country. All mediums, disciplines, and artistic methods are welcome. Please review facilities to ensure your practice is suited to the available spaces.

Residents receive a private bedroom in shared housing, private studio space within a shared open-plan studio, and access to specialized facilities. Writers may use the Research Library, dancers/performers have access to a Dance Studio, and musicians can access the local music school. Residents are encouraged to participate in open studio and give artist talks.

  • Application fee: $15 USD
  • Residency fee: approximately €33 per day (€850 for one month)
  • Included: workspace, accommodation, utilities (Wi-Fi, heat, water, electricity), linens, towels, kitchen equipment, cleaning supplies, washing machine/dryer, sauna (if applicable), screening room access, artist talk and open studio coordination, and tech support
  • Not included: food, art materials, travel expenses, insurance, or miscellaneous living expenses

Nes works to keep fees as low as possible with support from the local municipality. Full fellowships or stipends are not available unless artists are selected for a particular funded project. Artists are encouraged to apply for funding in their home country; TransArtists maintains a resource list.
