Position Overview
Sound Theatre Company is seeking a Business and House Manager to work directly with the Co-Artistic Directors in a growing theatre company. This is a full-time position, 35–40 hours per week, at $28.00/hour, combining two formerly part-time roles. Benefits include one week paid vacation, one week unpaid vacation, partial health benefits, medical and family leave per state law, and $500 annually for professional development.
About Sound Theatre
Sound Theatre has been in operation since 2006 and is known for excellence, with over 20 Gregory Awards for Outstanding Achievement, including Theatre of the Year four times. As of 2024, Sound Theatre is a TPS Resident Company producing at the Center Theatre, Seattle Center Armory. The company has a $500,000 operating budget and offers year-round public programming.
Core Duties
- Business, Finance & Administration: manage banking and expenses, maintain CRM ticket sales and fundraising data, monitor budgeted vs. actual expenses, process bi-weekly payroll, manage Google Suite operations, complete annual reporting and renewals.
- Front of House Management: facilitate ticket and concession sales, be present at approximately 50 events per year (setup 90 minutes before curtain through end of show), oversee concessions manager, manage volunteer staff, greet audiences, maintain lobby and performance spaces.
- Additional duties may include liaising with board members and contractors as the employee gains experience.
Schedule & Work Environment
This is a 35–40 hours/week hybrid position to be scheduled with the Co-ADs and other staff. Daytime, evening, or weekend times may be required but not to exceed 40 hours per week. Most administrative work is currently remote; the company rents a flexible office workspace in the University District with shared amenities. Production schedules are typically Thursday–Sunday with occasional Mondays and single weeknight events.
Physical Requirements
The position primarily requires computer work but may involve navigating non-ADA compliant spaces, including stairs and/or ladders. The Business and House Manager may need to lift and transport objects up to 50 lbs. Seattle Center is accessible by public transportation, though traversing the large campus can be challenging for those requiring mobility devices.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Multiple years of administrative and/or sales experience
- Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
- Professional communication ability
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing tasks
- Basic computer literacy, including spreadsheet familiarity
- Basic knowledge of accounting/math
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to social justice and creating a radically inclusive theatre community
Desired Qualifications
- Completed courses in finance/business/accounting (high school, college, or other)
- Administrative experience with a non-profit organization and/or theatre company
- Experience managing sales and customer service
