Overview
VALA Eastside invites artists, writers, and the creative community to apply for Small Wonders—an exhibition of miniature artworks and short-form writing. The call seeks small-scale works that relate to your sense of home, including depictions of personal cultural heritage.
What to submit
- 2D artworks, no more than 100 square inches in size, including frame
- 3D artworks that fit in the palm of your hand
- Poetry or flash fiction, less than 100 words in length
Key dates
- Application deadline: Monday, September 7, 2026
- Finished art deadline: Friday, September 25, 2026
- Art drop-off: Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, 2026
- Exhibition soft opening: Saturday, October 3, 2026
- Exhibition dates: Friday, October 9 – Sunday, December 13, 2026
- Opening reception: 6–8pm Friday, October 9, 2026
- Art pick-up: Saturday, December 19 and Sunday, December 20, 2026
Eligibility
Open to local artists and poets. LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community members are always welcomed in line with VALA's commitment to uplifting marginalized voices.
Fees and submission
- Entry fee: $1 per piece submitted; up to 6 pieces per artist

- Pay entry fee via Zelle or contact Ella to discuss alternative payment methods

Artwork specifications
All work must be original and the artist must own the sole copyright. Frames, mats, and wiring must be professional quality and in good condition. 2D artwork selected for exhibition must be ready to hang. No saw-tooth hangers; use D-rings with secure wiring. 3D artwork must have a mount if needed.
Sales and commission
Not-for-sale artwork will be considered. All sales and inquiries are handled directly by the artist. Artists retain 100% commission on all exhibition sales.

All applications will be reviewed by VALA's Curator, Ella Woodward, and Board Member and artist, Eva Moon.
