About

Overview

Arts Council Santa Cruz County, in partnership with the City of Santa Cruz and with support from an anonymous donor, is launching a new site-specific public art opportunity in downtown Santa Cruz.

Award

One $50,000 award is available. Phase 2 finalists will be paid a $750-$1,000 stipend for developing full proposals.

Process

Phase 1: Submit request for qualifications including written description of proposed artwork online by August 26, 2026 at 11:59pm
Phase 2: Finalists invited to develop full proposals, including project budget, artwork mockups and site plans

Eligibility

Individual artist or artist team
Completed at least 1 public art installation of similar scope and scale
Current resident of Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara, or San Mateo County
At least 18 years old when applying
Valid Tax ID number (will be verified if selected)

Important Notes

The award is taxable and the awarded artist will be issued a 1099. Applicants should consult a tax advisor for their specific circumstances.
