Overview

FRAGILE: A Group Ceramic Exhibition at Dogwood Arts will showcase functional and sculptural ceramic art from emerging and established artists throughout the region. The juried exhibition will take place at the Dogwood Arts Gallery in Downtown Knoxville.

Key Dates

• Application Deadline: Monday, September 28, 2026 @ 11:59pm
• Notification of Acceptance: October 1st, 2026
• Artist delivery to gallery: Thursday, October 29th, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM EST
• Opening/Public Reception: First Friday, November 6th, 5:00-8:00 PM and First Friday, December 4th, 5:00-8:00 PM
• Exhibition dates: November 6 - December 17, 2026
• Pick-up of work: Friday, December 18th, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (all works must be cleared by 6:00 PM)

Eligibility

Open to all artists 18 years and older residing within a 200 mile radius of Downtown Knoxville. Work must have been completed in the last two years. Artists must be able to deliver artwork to the gallery in person. 3-D work over 100 lbs must be installed/picked-up by the artist and should not exceed a 4' x 4' footprint.

Media & Scope

This call is open to both functional and sculptural ceramics.

Entry & Fees

• $5 non-refundable fee per application
• You may submit up to three works per application
• Jury results will be forwarded via email

Awards

Awards totaling $500 will be presented at the Opening Reception on November 6th, 2026. Dogwood Arts will award a $350 gift card to Mighty Mud to one exhibiting artist and another $150 Mighty Mud gift card to one artist on the mug wall. All awards are designated by the juror and are final.

Sales & Commission

Work is NOT required to be for sale but is strongly recommended. A 20% commission applies to all sales to cover transaction fees and taxes. Sold works are to remain in the exhibition until its official close (although some exceptions may be considered).

Submission Requirements

Artists must provide biographical information, artist's statement, digital images, and other materials as requested. Artist agrees to allow Dogwood Arts to photograph artwork for publicity, education, and catalog purposes. Wall-hung work must be ready to hang and come with detailed instructions; artists must include all hanging devices required for installation.

Delivery & Handling

The artist is responsible for delivering all accepted pieces to Dogwood Arts on October 29th between 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM EST. Artists must be able to deliver artwork to the gallery - no shipping is allowed. Work must be ready to exhibit. Dogwood Arts reserves the right to inspect and, if necessary, prepare or request the artist to prepare artwork for exhibition. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Work unclaimed within 30 days of the pick-up date becomes the property of Dogwood Arts.

Liability & Insurance

Dogwood Arts agrees to handle all artwork with proper care. In the event of loss or damage to artwork at fault of Dogwood Arts, Dogwood Arts agrees to compensate up to reasonable market value as agreed upon by artist and Dogwood Arts Executive Director. Dogwood Arts shall not be liable for damage or loss caused by war, confiscation, order of any government or public authority, or by any and all causes beyond the control of Dogwood Arts. Artists are responsible for insuring work while in transit. Unclaimed work is not insured after the posted pick-up date.
