Jay Kvapil: Recent Landscapes is on view at Diane Rosenstein Gallery, Los Angeles April 13 – May 25, 2024. This is the artist's third solo exhibition with the gallery, presenting a new suite of glazed rock forms created in his studio on the Sonoma Coast.

The artist explores landscape through ceramic vessels and invented rock forms. Form and surface merge in highly glazed pieces where pictorial elements and forms become one. The work centers on metaphorical landscapes seen in the mind's eye rather than recreations of the physical world. Each piece is fired multiple times with raw ceramic glaze materials forced to melt, fuse, bubble, crawl, and drip, creating results somewhere between chaos and control.

Theme
An installation of glazed ceramic rock forms and vessels exploring landscapes—both imaginary, metaphorical landscapes of the mind and invented rock forms created through a process of partial plaster molds, clay slab construction, and multiple firings with experimental glazing techniques.
