Overview

ELPA Design and Sustainability Residency is a one-month creative residency in rural Latvia near Līvāni, surrounded by an apple orchard, forest, and meadows. The name comes from the Latvian word elpa, meaning "breath"—symbolizing renewal and giving something a second life. The residency welcomes artists and cultural practitioners from diverse fields to exchange ideas, work on projects, and take a meaningful break from achievement-driven culture.

Dates & Duration

• Residency: June 30–July 27, 2025 (1 month)
• Application deadline: May 5, 2025
• Results announced: After May 15, 2025

Location & Accommodation

• Private rooms with shared bathrooms in the main house
• Small self-sustained cabin option
• Communal work space, fully-equipped kitchen, and dining area
• Wi-Fi available in the main building

• Workshop space with woodworking manual and electric tools
• Manual gardening and landscaping tools
• Ample outdoor spaces and organic/locally-sourced materials
• Writing desks and chairs in bedrooms
• Wi-Fi in communal spaces

Fees & Support

• Cost: 700 EUR for the monthly stay
• Covers: access to coworking/coliving spaces, Wi-Fi, bed linen, towels, and laundry facilities
• Deposit: 50% required to confirm; remainder due 2 weeks before arrival
• Artist responsibility: travel expenses, food, and drinks (communal meals encouraged and supported)
• The residency provides an acceptance letter to support grant applications for travel, insurance, and other costs
