The KADI Immediate Needs Minigrant, funded by the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation, provides funding for individual artists facing unexpected opportunities to present their work or unplanned expenses for near-complete projects with confirmed exhibition, performance, or deadline dates—when alternative funding sources are not feasible due to time constraints.

  • Apply when ready: applications available starting March 20, 2026
  • Applications accepted until funds exhausted (first-come, first-served)
  • Turnaround time for funding decisions: approximately 2 weeks
  • Project/PDO must be completed within 3 months of contract
  • Final report due 3 months after receipt of award letter
  • Maximum grant: $750
  • Grant cannot be more than 50% of the total project budget
  • Individual artists must be at least 18 years of age by the deadline date and live/work in Kalamazoo County
  • Only individual artists or groups without formal non-profit designations can apply
  • Projects/Professional Development Opportunities must not be complete before submission of request
  • Applicants with unmet obligations on prior grants (late/incomplete reports) are disqualified
  • Applicants who have received funding from an Arts Council grant program in the prior 12 months are disqualified
  • ACGK Members: free
  • Non-members: $25 application fee (memberships range from $20–$419 for one year)
  • Activities required for academic credit toward a degree
  • Fundraisers
  • Food/beverages for receptions
  • Capital expenses exceeding $500 (equipment with useful life of more than one year)
  • Equipment up to $500 is acceptable if integral to the creation or performance of art
