Overview
Deveron Projects, an international socially-engaged arts organisation based in Huntly, Scotland, offers a funded 3-month residency in partnership with the Mondriaan Fund. The selected artist will live and work in rural north-east Scotland, collaborating with local communities and developing new work to share at the end of the residency.
Who May Apply
Visual artists working in any medium are welcome. Experience of socially-engaged practice is not essential, but artists should demonstrate a desire to collaborate, experiment and learn with others as part of their creative process. Solo applications only; duos cannot apply.
Residency Focus
In their application, artists should indicate starting points for their residency connected to the location and context of Deveron Projects and to their existing practice. These may include climate crisis, community building, ecologies, migration, food, politics, rurality, colonial histories/presents, overlooked narratives, lived experiences, and social justice.
Dates & Duration
One work period is available: 1 May 2027 – 31 July 2027. Deveron Projects operates a flexible model and will work with the selected artist to schedule the residency appropriately, which may include undertaking it in several blocks.
Support & Accommodation
The Mondriaan Fund provides €8,984 subsidy for the artist (covering travel, materials, and living costs) plus accommodation and workspace. The artist is expected to contribute 10%, which the Mondriaan Fund automatically accounts for in the final subsidy. The selected resident will have sole use of the custom-designed Artists' House, which includes a bedroom, cabin bed, studio space, self-catering kitchen, and wetroom. Partners, friends, or family may stay at no extra charge.
Access Support
A small access budget is available to support comfortable participation, including slower travel, childcare, mobility aids, communication aids, and travel buddies. Artists based in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom may receive increased contributions to cover higher travel costs.
How Deveron Projects Works
The team works closely with artists to develop projects conceptually and practically, nurturing relationships between visiting artists, local communities, and experts. Residencies are facilitated through weekly check-ins, studio visits, and participation in regular programmes. The Artists' House is part of a unique site that includes a creative and community hub, social justice and ecology library, and public garden.
